The duration of the common cold...

...is far too long in my opinion. I've been "under" this wonderful 90-degree summer weather with an obnoxious COLD for three days straight and am not enjoying it in the least. Oh, the entertainment is pleasant ("Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Lion King 1 1/2," for starters) and the food not bad (Goldfish and Morningstar Meatless Corn Dogs), but how can I enjoy any of this when my head is getting whiplash from successive sneezing fits and my nose feels like it's swelled to twice the size of my left foot? The bright spot in all of this? I'm not running a fever, which means I can still get my shots tonight for my November trip to Zambia. Yah, you heard right, shots are the "bright" spot in my day... :o) No, there's much else to be grateful for ---- like the prayers of those who care about me and my boss saying, "Go home. Rest up. Leave!" And my passport is due to be delivered any day, and my new BLUE J.Crew swimsuit is on its way too. Oh, and how could I overlook the pleasant patter of little feet, 4 to be exact. Gracie Lou hasn't forgotten me. Yes....it's a good day. Not really because of all of those things, but simply because having one more day (in sickness or health, for richer or poorer, in good times and bad) is such a blessing from God. As David said, so say I: "This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it."

  1. Jamanada! The crazy names we come up with. I need a "butchering" of my name.....whatever could it be? Glad to hear about Hope Network and know that I am certainly praying for you. The Zambia "team" is going in for shots tonight...maybe pray for me? I'm sickly, not sickly enough to not get them, and I HATE shots. Really bad! So yah, things are "happening" around here and everything is going well, all things considered. Keep me in the loop on HN and give me some dates for good "road tripping" adventures to MSU. Oh, and what I wouldn't give to go to an MSU football game con tu! :o) Much love to you, mi amiga (didn't think I remembered that much Spanish, did you....) :o)

  3. You are going to Zambia?? Who are you going with? What for? Visiting Janine? Woah that is so so cool!! Just look away when they are giving you your shots...breath in and out deeply and drift off into thinking about flowers and waterfalls and you dog and church and work and waterfalls and rainforests and anything else and by the time you finish thinking of all that, it'll be over and you'll forget why you are looking at the door of a doctor's office:)

  4. Yup, Janine in Zambia over Thanksgiving. We're going as part of a "Therefore" team that hopefully you all will be hearing more about in September once plans are firmed up. A brain child of Rob's --- we're his guinea pigs. Dan and Amy are my "cohorts" in the operation and we all made it through shots swimmingly. Next up, airline tickets. Sweet... If you think about it, would you pray for me that I would make wise decisions --- we're supposed to budget and do all that fun stuff and at times it can be a bit overwhelming. But I'm giddy about the opportunity to go and absolutely cannot wait 'til November. 'Course, there's much to be done in the meantime.... Oh "wonderful" planner that I am. :o) Will keep you posted!

  6. Did you see that! A man named Harold decided to spam MY blog with his not-so-welcomed-and-certainly-not-solicited new tree species advertisement. What gives with that? Is nothing sacred anymore!?!?!?! I "deleted" Harold, forever --- and have half a mind (ha, ha) to report him to the Blogging powers that be. Rude, rude, rude..... :o)
